Jonel Beauvais
Jonel is also a consultant to the Tribal Law and Policy Institute and supports the work of the Tribal Youth Resource Center in building the capacity of OJJDP tribal grantees to prevent and reduce the number of Native youth who become runaways and/or victims of human trafficking. She is dedicated to the health and wellness of our families and communities and is the co-creator of a community grassroots organization called the Welcome Home Circle. The Circle is working towards building six tiny homes to be able to provide safe transitional housing for those vulnerable populations transitioning from imprisonment back into community. Jonel is a former staff person with the Seven Dancers Coalition, N.Y, where she worked for five years in providing community outreach services on awareness and prevention of sexual assault, domestic violence, teen dating, and sex trafficking and stalking.
Her passion is to share her life experiences as a native woman who has witnessed and lived through the adversities of addiction, caretaking, incarceration, sexual assault, suicide and other forms of violence. Her intent is to offer support and insight for those struggling spiritually and emotionally, with hopes of reviving the strong medicine she feels we all possess. Her vision is that we may attain peace within to restore our nurturing Indigenous communities, with the hope that our grandchildren yet to come will continue to flourish in our ways of life.
